Robert Connaughty, St. Charles, dies

ST. CHARLES -- Robert Norman Connaughty, 90, of St. Charles, and a former Utica-area farmer, died Tuesday (March 23, 1993) at his home.

He was born Dec. 20, 1902, in Lewiston. On Oct. 14, 1926, he married Viva Calhoun and they farmed south of Utica before moving to St. Charles in 1948.

After moving to St. Charles, he operated a service station, worked for Curries Implement, was caretaker of Hillside Cemetery, worked at Dean's Locker Plant, was janitor for the United Methodist Church for 25 years, and was a tree-trimmer. His wife died in May 1980.

Survivors include two sons, Curtis of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Gary of Columbus, Ga.; a daughter, Beverly (Mrs. Dean) Norvet of St. Charles; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bernice Fenske of Dover and Florence Sanden of St. Charles. Five sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in St. Charles, with the Rev. Ken Rowe officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery here.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles and an hour before the service Friday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Hospice or St. Charles United Methodist Church.
