Lillian M. Keeney
ELGIN - Funeral for Lillian M. Keeney, 93, Elgin, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elgin First United Methodist Church, with Larry Thoma, pastor, and the Rev. Joe Langley officiating.

Mrs. Keeney died Tuesday, March 10, 2009, in Lawton.

Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Lawton, under direction of Elgin Funeral Home.

She was born Jan. 8, 1916, in Cement, to James and Ida McCloskey Miller. She graduated from Lawton High School in 1934. She married Ben Keeney on March 18, 1935, in Elgin. He died Sept. 8, 1988. During World War II, she was one of the "Rosie the Riveters," and built planes, welded, and did many other jobs. Later in life, she worked at Elgin Schools from 1955 until 1973. She retired after 18 years. She was a member of Elgin First United Methodist Church, where she was involved with United Methodist Women. She was a seamstress.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Ed Gross, Broken Arrow; a daughter in-law, Liz Keeney, Kentucky; a brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Donna Miller, Elgin; a sister, Dorothy Butler, Fletcher; four grandchildren: Robert Keeney, and David Keeney, both of Kentucky; Katherine and husband Jake Chancler, and Helen Gross, all of Tulsa; and two great-grandchildren: Amanda Keeney, Kentucky; and Elizabeth Chancler, Tulsa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Darol Keeney; two brothers: Ira and Buck Miller; and two sisters: Lucille Ambrose and Doris Bates.

Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Women at First United Methodist Church of Elgin.
