"Louisa Batson was born near East Springfield, Otsego county, New York, May 15, 1846 and departed this life at her late home in Chapman, Kansas, October 30, 1920, aged seventy-four years five months and fifteen days. Death came as a sudden shock to her many friends, as she was apparently in good health until stricken with paralysis a week prior to her death, from which stroke she never regained consciousness, but passed away as serenely as if she had fallen asleep. On November 6, 1867 she was united in marriage with Isaac N. Lowe, who departed this life April 21, 1918. To this union were born seven children, one of whom died in infancy. In 1874 the family moved to Adrian, Michigan, where they resided one year. They went to Kansas in the spring of 1875, locating on a farm near Chapman where deceased resided until the spring of 1919 when she moved to Chapman and made her home with her son Claude. She was a faithful and consistent member of the Christian Church, with whom she united in 1887. Rich in character, an ideal mother and home maker, a devoted Christian and friend, a lover of good and true she has gone home to a fitting reward in the kingdom of her Master. Six children are left to mourn her loss; Claude P. of Chapman, Charles B. of Lawrence, Maude L. Bartruff, Bellington, Wash., Stella M. Minick Talmage, Kans., Dea. M. Charleston Washington, Minnie E. Boyce, Detroit, Kansas, all of whom were present at the time of her death except Maude and Dea. Besides these children who feel most keenly the bereavement she leaves one brother, John Baston of East Springfield, New York, and eleven grandchildren and a host of friends to miss her ... the body was laid to rest in the Indian Hill cemetery." ["The Otsego Farmer & Republican" (Cooperstown, NY), January 21, 1921, p. 7]
