WARREN, Mich. — Mr. John Joseph Ullom, 73, of Warren, Mich., formerly of Hope Mills, N.C., passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital-Warren Campus in Warren.

He was born March 31, 1935, to the late Dennis and Martha Grabny Ullom in Hamtramck.

John was a Korean War veteran, receiving many commendations. During his military career, he served in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C.

After serving his country, he became a sales representative and a drum instructor with McFadyen Music in Fayetteville, N.C. He had a great love for big band music and was one of the biggest Glenn Miller fans ever. John loved to play the drums. Music brought so much enjoyment to him.

He worked hard during his lifetime. He often gave up items he wanted and needed so that his children didn't have to go without.

John is survived by his three sons, Daniel Ullom and wife Vernell, and Keith Ullom, all of Hope Mills, and Roy Ullom of St. Pauls, N.C.; two daughters, Kathy Hickey and husband Ed of Hope Mills and Hope Blue and husband Phil of Stafford, Va.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family of Mr. John Joseph Ullom will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home, 500 Ramsey St.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2008, in the chapel of Rogers and Breece Funeral Home with Chaplain Archie Barringer officiating. He will be laid to rest in Fayetteville Memorial Cemetery.
