Josiah Gough Sr. was born 24 July 1848 in Ludlow, Shropshire, England. The oldest of two children from Willaim and Harriet Meredith Gough.

in 1853 when Josiah was only 5 years old he came to America with his Mother Harriet, His younger Borther John, On the Appleton M. Harmon Company. There hare a few different stories as to whil William did not go with the family. One of which says he refused to go to America and tried to make Harriet not go as well. Another Side of it says that William Died before Harriet came to America. But as of now, it is unknown to me why William didn't join his family in America.

Josiah Was left by his Mother and Brother in Utah when he was only 15. His mother and brother headed to Nebraska to be with the RLDS church.

Josiah Married Elizabeth Arcena Boley on 1 Nov 1868 in Salt Lake City, Utah. To this union they had 9 Children
1. Elizabeth Harriet Gough 1869
2. Joseph (Josiah Jr.) Gough 1872
3. Martha Ellen Gough 1873
4. Sarah Ann Gough 1875
5. John Cyrus Gough 1876
6. Nora Jane Gough 1877
7. Elsie Gough 1879
8. Henry Boley Gough 1881
9. Ida Gough 1883

On October 13, 1891 in American Fork, Joseph Gough was on trial for Adultery with a 15 yr. old Girl.
"Josiah Gough of American Fork is before court on the charge of adultery, with a 15-year-old girl as co-defendant. The case is an extremely man-eating one, and an intense feeling is manifested towards the Prisoner." The Ogden Standard Examiner Oct 14, 1891. http://digitalnewspapers.org/
The first jury came back with an inability to agree up on a verdict. So after a second trial in March of 1892, Mr. Gough was found guilty by a jury of his peers; and sentenced to 6 months in the Penitentiary. (Articles from the Provo Dailey Enquirer 1981 & 1982)
While Mr. Gough was imprisoned he escaped once and was caught. There is a newspaper article with a picture of him and Mr. Clark Racing up 14th East away from the bullets of the prison guards.

Josiah Gough was excommunicated form the LDS church. Elizabeth Stood by her husband's side and clamed he was innocent it must have been that he was just to drunk to know what he was doing.

Josaih Died 11 May 1915 in Yuma, Bingham, Idaho. After his death he was reinstated into the church.
