Longtime Ridgecrest, CA resident Nina L. "Pauline" Conway passed away Friday 6 Mar 2009 at her home.
Funeral services were held at Immanuel Baptist Church.
Nina was born 28 Feb 1913 in Pisgah, AL. She was the ninth child in a family of nine children. After graduating from high school, Nina attended Canyon State College in Shamrock, TX. She came to California in 1936.
During WWII, she moved to Santa Monica, CA and worked at North American Aviation. She married John Conway and they started a construction company around 1948.
She graduated from USC in 1953 with a bachelor's degree. In 1956, the family moved to Bakersfield, CA. They came to Ridgecrest, CA in 1970.
Nina worked a variety of jobs including farm hand, waitress, aircraft worker and teacher. She taught Laubach Literacy classes and a women's Bible study at Immanuel Baptist Church.
Nina was preceded in death by her husband, John Conway, and a granddaughter Jaime Conway.
She is survived by a son Bill Conway and wife Wanda of Ridgecrest; granddaughter Lea Reyes of Tulsa, OK; grandson Jesse Conway of Hot Springs, AR; grandson Matthew Conway of Ridgecrest; nieces Olena Smith of Kennewick, WA; Sandra Thompson and Lillie Davis both of Bakersfield; great-grandchildren Chadwick Reyes, Ashleigh Reyes, and Jonathan Reyes of Tulsa, OK.
