Richard Travis Shannon was born in Boston Massachusetts to Michael Shannon and Mary (Travers) Shannon. Both Michael and Mary were born in Ireland. Michael and Mary were married in Chelsea Massachusetts June 1861. Mary Travers Shannon is the sister of the late Mary Travers' (from Peter, Paul, and Mary)Great Grandfather Robert Travers.

Richard and his wife Sarah Jane (Neal/Neil) Shannon came to Seattle the day after the "Great Seattle Fire". Needless to say she wanted to return to Boston. More on Sarah on her grave bio.

Richard owned and operated a grocery stores, theaters, & produce markets, in Seattle. In the early days they lived downtown Seattle prior to the Denny Regrade. Then they moved to Queen Anne Hill where the Seattle Center now stands. Their house was torn down to make way for the center. They lived at 521 Warren Avenue. Richard was manager of many theaters in downtown Seattle during the vaudeville days and also part owner of the Pantages Theater along with partner and co-founder Alexander Pantages. They even had Al Jolsen for a show.

Richard is surrounded by many of his children and wife. Buried in the same area is: His wife Sarah Jane, Sons Lawrence and Richard Travers Shannon Jr., their wives, Robert Densmore Shannon (My grandfather) and Veda Lorraine Moore Shannon (My Grandmother). There are nine total. My mother and I will be buried with them someday but hopefully not too soon. ;)

God Bless My Shannon Family.
