Lester L. Calhoun, 89, of Braidwood and Wilmington area, passed away Thursday, February 15, 1996, at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. He was born September 1, 1906, at Coles County, IL, the son of the late John and Carrie (Heritage) Calhoun.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura S. (nee Frost) Calhoun; one son, Robert; one brother, Albert; two sisters, Margaret Countryman and Vema Allen.
Mr. Calhoun is survived by his children, Dorothy Prottty of Largo, FL, Lester L. Calhoun Jr. of Wichita Falls, TX, Raymond Calhoun of Wilmington, Jeanette White, Lincoln, IL, Genevieve Scherer of Chillicothe, Rosemary Clark of Mansfield, IL, Harold Calhoun of Pomona, CA, Deloris Volkert of Minot, N.D., Phyllis Gaines of Westfield, IL, Gloris Stem of Orlando, FL, David Calhoun of Paxton, IL, Lawrence Calhoun of Mahomet, IL, Beverly Mansfield of Braidwood, Roger Calhoun of Braidwood, and Gary Calhoun of Morris; over sixty grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren.
He was an employee of Caterpillar Tractor Co. of Joliet (1972) and Whitmore Hardware, Wilmington, for 11 years.
Funeral services were held at 11am on Monday, February 19, 1996, at the Wilmington Church of the Nazarene, 303 S. Kankakee St., Wilmington with the Rev. Lloyd E. Kemfale officiating. Burial was in Wesley Cemetery.
Freitag Funeral Home in Wilmington was in charge of arrangements. Memorials in his name to the church would be appreciated.
