Re: Linwood Cemetery Question 1
From Historic Linwood
To Ginger Bivins
Dear Ginger,
Please forgive me for taking so long to get back to you. Your message got buried (well, we are in a cemetery, after all!).

There are 3 known Bivins buried in the lot you call Sec. J, Lot 220. That is actually a numbering system devised by Dolores Autry when she surveyed the cemetery back in the 1990s. The "true" lot number -- according to city records is Section C, lot 871. The three people who are buried there, according to our interment file, are:
Francis (your Mary Frances) Bivins, who was buried 11-23-1882
J.M. Bivins (child of), stillborn, who was buried 1-30-1873
Geo. Bivins, 18 mos., buried 12-18-1900

In the Lot Book for Section C, under lot 871, there is a note that says: "Occupied by J.M. Bivins." It does not say that J.M. Bivins BOUGHT the lot -- simply that he occupied it. There is no date with this note. The lot was occupied by a Bivins in January of 1873, when the unnamed child cited above died. Then Major Bivins died 3 years later.

In 1882 a little bit of lot 871 was portioned off as 871 1/2 and sold to F. L. Brooks, according to the Lot Book for Section C. On the Find-a-grave photo, the Brooks marker shows up as the white ledger in the back right of the plot.

I suspect that James M. and his wife are in the two unmarked bricked graves at the front, with little Georgie (the son of W.D. Bivins) behind them. Since the unnamed child was buried first (1873), he/she is probably in a totally unmarked grave.

I am attaching some obituaries for the Bivins family that were on genealogybank and the Galileo newspaper websites. Hope they help (you may already have them, of course!).
