J. H. Fenton was born in Illinois on November 2?, 1836, and died last Friday, February 14, at the hospital in Stafford where he had been taken to have an operation performed to remove a cancer from which he had suffered many years. He was aged 71 years, 2 months, and 14 days.
In 1856 he moved to Iowa, and to Kansas in 1873. Last summer Mr. Fenton and his wife came to Sylvia to make their home here, and in the autumn Mrs. Fenton died and was buried here. Mr. Fenton made his home with his son, R. W. Fenton, until his death. He had been a true Christian since early manhood and recently united with the Church of Christ here. He was a loving husband and good father.
The funeral services were conducted by M. A. Draper at the Church of Christ, and the body was laid to rest beside his wife in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery east of town.
He leaves two daughters, seven sons, a brother and four sisters to mourn his death. We extend our sincere sympathy to the bereaved ones.
The obituary was contributed by Barbara Bowman. Thanks Barbara.
