IRON RIVER – Radford “Rad” C. Richards, of West U.S. 2, Iron River, died June 7 at Iron County General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 14, 1921 in National Mine. The son of the late William and Rose (Treloar) Richards attended the Iron River schools and graduated from Iron River High School in 1939. He married the former Ileen Carne Feb. 17, 1945 at St. Agnes Rectory in Iron River, and the couple made their home in Iron River. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1995. He managed and operated Rad’s Auto Bar in Iron River at 4th and Maple St. for 40 years. In 1981 he was employed by Northland Publishers Inc. at the Reporter office and presently was sales manager at the time of his death. He was a musician, playing the trumpet in his Dance Band. The band entertained for several years at the Shamrock in Gaastra. He was a loving family man, avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He loved animals and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Ward; and two sisters, Frances Papenfuss and Emily Peterson. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Triese (Alan) Haase of Slinger, Wis., Peggy (William) Jacobson of DePere, Wis., Raddie (Fred) Maurer of Perry and Patty (Ray) Rogers of Hibbing, Minn.; a brother-in-law Willard (Arlene) Carne of Escanaba; two sisters-in-law, Dolly Richards of Iron Mountain and Betty Richards of Green Bay, Wis.; eight grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held June 11 at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River.
Funeral services were held June 11 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, and con-celebrant Rev. Otto Sartorelli offering the Mass of Christian Burial.
Pallbearers were Chris Haase, Billy and Mike Jacobson and Luke and Ray Rogers, Jr., grandsons, Ray Rogers, son-in-law, and Ralph Commenator, friend.
Organist Luella Ambach accompanied the St. Agnes Choir on musical selections “Old Rugged Cross,” “Wind Beneath Thy Wings,” “Amazing Grace,” “Prayer of St. Francis,” “On Eagles Wings” and “Be Not Afraid.” Special soloist Bill Harris performed “Precious Lord Take My Hand.”
Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River.

The business was located on the corner of Fourth and Maple in 1939 selling Standard Gasoline. The owner is Radford Richards who is the oldest service station operator in the area.

The jeep float of Radford Richards' Auto Bar coughed several times in the parade along Genesee street Wednesday afternoon but it continued to the very gates of the fairgrounds where it stopped and blocked the path of oncoming floats at the disbanding area.
