AVON PARK, June 16. - Arthur Winthrop Sargent, 84, pioneer resident, died today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fannie Reeves Spink. He had lived here 45 years, and at one time edited a newspaper here. Besides his daughter, he is survived by a son, Arthur W. Sargent, Jr., of Gainesville.

Arthur was the tenth of eleven children of Charlotte Sophia White and John Turner Sargent. 16 October 1875 he married Matilda [Maud] S.J. Ross, with whom he had three children: Arthur Winthrop Sargent b: 4 Dec 1876; Marion White Sargent b: 10 July 1882 and Frances Perkins Sargent b: 2 Nov 1889. Before moving to Avon Park, Florida, Arthur edited a paper in Ishpeming, Michigan. Upon arriving in Florida he was engaged in orange-growing, was Justice of the Peace for twelve years, Town Clerk, assistant postmaster and editor of a paper.
