GREEN RIVER-Leonard Kay Jewkes, age 83, passed away March 5, 2005 at the Logan Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 8, 1921 in Orangeville to Alma Gardner and Emeline Cox Jewkes. *He married Dora Deane Peterson Jan. 22, 1942 in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Leonard loved to golf. He served in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of callings including ward clerk, counselor in the Bishopric and Young Men's President. Leonard served for 30 years with the Utah Highway Patrol and three years as a corrections officer at the State Penitentiary. After retiring from the highway patrol, he was a representative for the Utah State Division of Aging and Adult Services. He was a lifetime member of the Green River volunteer Fire Department.

Leonard is survived by his wife Dora Deane Jewkes of Green River; daughters Carol Jeanne Austin of Hyrum, Karen Maria Barker of College Ward, daughter-in-law Rita Ann Jewkes of Green River; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers Alma Hue Jewkes of Sandy and Thomas Samuel Jewkes of St. George. Preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; six brothers; son Leonard Dean Jewkes; and grandson Cody John Austin.

Funeral services will be held Fri. March 11, 2005 at noon at the Green River LDS Church where a viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service. Burial in the Elgin Cemetery in Green River under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.

If we were to ask dad what he wanted us to say about him when he died, his reply would be a simple "It's up to you." Well, dad, this time it is up to you. Continue to watch out for mom, continue to remind us of your excellent example, help us choose the right. [end of bio]
