"Walter Jacob (Jake) Bratten was born in Cooper County, Missouri. He moved to Kansas City, Kansas after his marriage to Leora Dobson who was born in Tuscombia, Missouri. He worked at various jobs: packing house, railroad and finally farming and dairy cattle on the outskirts of Kansas City. He also did excavating.

Jake always had a new "Pat and Mike" Irish joke to tell anytime he met someone. He smoked a pipe, wore a hat pulled low on his forehead and I don't believe he ever broke the speed law when he drove his truck either in town or on the highway."
