James Mack Franklin was the infant son of Walter Mackey "Mack" and Phena "Dee" Huffman Franklin.

Little James Mack was named for his uncle, James Willard Huffman, and for his father, Walter Mackey "Mack" Franklin.

James Mack was born at my Great Grandmother's home in Jerusalem. Dr. Close was the attending physician, it was an almost impossible delivery. Dr. Close told my father and grandfather that my mother was too small to have the baby natural and he recommended taking her to a hospital for caeserean section. My grandfather refused and my mother always believed her father, she did what her father said. My father had no say in the matter(which I believe caused serious problems in their marriage, although it was rarely spoken of). To save my mother, Dr. Close literally had to pull the baby out, in doing so he crushed his skull and broke his neck. Little James Mack was a fighter, he lived for almost three months. Only God knows how that little baby suffered before the the Lord finally took him home.

James Mack was my oldest brother.

The Little Ship...
...I stood watching as the little ship sailed out to sea. The setting sun tinted his white sails with a golden light, and as he disappeared from sight a voice at my side whispered, "He is gone". But the sea was a narrow one. On the farther shore a little band of friends had gathered to watch and wait in happy expectation. Suddenly they caught sight of the tiny sail and at the very moment when my companion had whispered, "He is gone" a glad shout went up in joyous welcome, "Here he comes!"
