Services for Donald A. Bailey Sr., 82, Lone Grove, will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2009, in Brock Baptist Church in Lone Grove with Pastor David Brantley and Pastor Terry Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Lone Cedar Cemetery.


Born May 6, 1926, in Ardmore to Homer Monroe and Cora Malissa (White) Bailey, he went to meet the Lord on March 5, 2009. He married Thelma Pittman July 5, 1947. He was preceded in death by his wife, of 49 1/2 years, his parents; and brothers, Cecil Bailey and Homer Bailey.


A direct descendent of the first Chickasaw over, Cyrus Harris, Donald was proud of his Native American heritage. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and received an honorable discharge. Donald had lived in Lone Grove for the past 35 years and worked as a carpenter and painter. He was a soft-spoken person and enjoyed spending time with his friends at the local coffee shops. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather.


Survivors include his son, Donald Bailey Jr. and wife, Jenny; daughters, Ann Behrens and husband, Cotton Dorer, Donna Garner and husband, Jim, Judy Morrell and husband, Coy, and Freda Skaggs and husband, Randy; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.


Bearers are Jamey Garner, Forrest Skaggs, Willie Bailey, Eli Bailey, Michael Stradley and Brandon Stradley. Honorary bearers are Cody Morrell, Joey Skaggs, Coby Chandler, Keegun Laymance, Taylor Love and Michael DeShon.


Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Griffin Funeral Home.
