“R. A. WARE Shot At Milstead Ala.: Shooting followed difficulty with M. W. PEARCE, A Young Man of Same Place; Interment in Columbus. The remains of Mr. R. A. WARE, who was shot and instantly killed by Mr. M. W. PEARCE yesterday at 1 o’clock at Milstead [Macon Co.], Ala., reached the city today at 1 o’clock, accompanied by three of his relatives. The interment of the remains was in Linwood cemetery. The shooting followed a difficulty between the two men, it is stated, the real cause not being learned in the city. Mr. WARE is 61 years old, and is survived by his wife, two daughter[s] and five sons; one sister, Mrs. BELL, of Lumpkin [Stewart Co.], Ga., and an aunt, Mrs. Alice NICKOLLS [sic – NUCKOLLS], of Columbus. Mr. WARE’s mother died a few weeks ago at Lumpkin, and was interred in Columbus.” [Columbus (GA) Enquirer-Sun newspaper, Thursday, 19 DEC 1912, p. 8.]
