He was married to Jane Smith September 22, 1850 and they lived together until August 1900 when she died. Ten children were born to them of whom two daughters and five sons survive them. He moved from Ohio to Iowa in 1859 where he remained until 1868 when he moved to Newton county, Missouri, and came to Burr Oak, Kansas in 1870 where he has resided ever since. He was married again to Mrs. M.C. Leonard of Republic county, Kansas January 18, 1903.

He became a christian in early life and has lived a life consistent with the faith throughout, being a member of the Christian church. There remains to mourn his loss his wife and seven children; Mrs. Mary Brown of Burr Oak, Mrs. Amelia Dyson of Topeka, Frank Myers of Mankato, Marion, Edgar, Evert and Claud Myers all of Burr Oak, all of whom were here when he died; also two sisters Mrs. Sidney Conrad of Clinton, Iowa and Sarah Wilson of Springville, Iowa.

He was buried at 10 o'clock Tuesday in the Burr Oak cemetery, Revs. Clark and Willis conducting the ceremonies. He was an old soldier and a highly respected citizen and his many friends here will feel his loss greatly.
