RUPERT • Emma Ruby Anderson Flowers, 88, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at the Countryside Care Center in Rupert surrounded by her loving children.
Emma was born in Rupert, Idaho, on Feb. 2, 1923. She was the daughter of Olaf (Oly) and Margaret Miller Anderson; she was the ninth of 10 siblings and the last of her generation. She married Ervin Daniel on Sept. 5, 1941. The lived in Colorado, Michigan and Kentucky and then moved back to Idaho. They were later divorced. Ervin passed away Feb. 5, 1996. Emma married John Flowers in 1960, and he passed away May 31, 1982.
Emma worked many jobs as her family was her priority. She also worked in the potatoes and sugar beets while maintaining a household. Emma worked at Kelly Bean Warehouse, Newcomb Potatoes, Shelly Processing, retiring from Ore-Ida at the age of 63. Emma also did housekeeping and worked at The Burley Reminder until she was 76 years old.
Emma is survived by her children, Linda (Lanny) Morgan of Burley, Beverly (David) Gallegos of Malad, Connie (Dean) Wilson of Boise, Randy (Yvonne) Daniel of Burley, Debora (Mark) Grigg of Albion, Laurie Loveland of Idaho Falls, Teresa (Mark) Allen of Rupert, Danny Flowers of Salmon and Tammy (Brian) Bell of Heyburn. Emma is also survived by 38 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren, with two more arriving in the next few months. Emma was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her daughter, Sherry (Steve) Workman; and her son, Larry Lee. She was also preceded in death by all of her siblings, Glen Anderson, Elmer W. Anderson, Leland W. Anderson, Paul H. Anderson, Helen M. Nielson, Rhoda H. Tibbetts, twins Susan and Sarah, and Mildred Anderson.
Her greatest joys were her children and their families and being together with them at family Thanksgiving and Christmas events. She enjoyed picnics, camping on Mount Harrison and in the South Hills and the Sawtooth Mountains. An occasional trip to Jackpot was always a welcome pastime. Emma loved to travel, but her trip of a lifetime was in 1999. Emma was able to visit her father's birthplace in Sweden, where her family still owns the original farm after 500 years.
Emma passed away Nov. 15 at the Countryside Extended Care Center in Rupert, where she had lived for the last year and a half. Many of her children and family were at her side. Many precious memories and her love will always stay with us.
The family would like to thank the physicians and staff of the Minidoka Memorial Hospital and the Countryside Care Center, along with Dr. Kevin Owens and Dr. Greg Boettcher for their compassion and kindness to our mother. She loved you all so much.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel, 710 Sixth St. in Rupert, with a viewing prior to the funeral at noon. A viewing will also be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel. Burial will be in the Rupert Cemetery.
