EL DORADO - Zieman, Vara Ernestine (YaYa), 90, of El Dorado, died Tuesday evening of natural causes at Vintage Park at Stanley, an assisted living home in Overland Park, Kan. Services will be held at noon Saturday, March 7, at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home with burial in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Ms. Zieman was born Aug. 2, 1918, in the home of her parents outside El Dorado. She graduated from Douglass High School and then attended Franklin Business School in Wichita. After graduating she became a bookkeeper for many businesses in El Dorado and Kansas City, and worked steadily until she was 85 years old. She married Maynard Albert Zieman in 1940. They later divorced and he died Dec. 3, 1992. Vara was a member of the First Christian Church of El Dorado, loved gardening and bird watching and was an avid reader. Active and independent throughout her life, she recalled crossing the Red River in a covered wagon with her parents and survived the Dust Bowl and the great El Dorado tornado of 1958. She kept up with current events until the last days of her life. She was a kind and gracious woman who was loved dearly by her many family members and friends. Vara was preceded in death by son, Tom R. Zieman; parents, Gilbert T. and Pearl Hodges Green; and brother, Virgil H. Green. She is survived by: son Gary L. Zieman and his wife Annette, Baton Rouge, LA; sister Virginia Palmer and her husband Jerry, El Dorado; daughter-in-law Vicki Zieman Cravens, Derby, KS; grandchildren, the Reverend Doctor Marshall Zieman and his wife Rebecca, Dallas, TX; Mark Zieman and his wife Rhonda, Kansas City, MO; Cindy LeJeune and husband Greg, Addis, LA; Candy Guerrero and husband Paul, Prairieville, LA; Misty Allred and husband Chester, Gonzales, LA; Tiffany Zieman, Geismar, LA; Michelle Zieman Nicholas and Rebecca Zieman, Derby, KS; Bethany Gildersleeve and husband Tommy, Baton Rouge, LA; Kristi Blanck and husband Tom, Overland Park, KS. Vara was blessed with many great-grandchildren: Glynnis and Gracie Zieman; Rachel and Sarah Flattery; Claire Blanck; Natalia, Suzanne and Ben Zieman; Stevie Guillory and husband, Floyd Jr.; Jeremy and Taylor LeJeune; Allison and Shelby Guerrero; Brandi, Samantha and Madisyn Allred; Chloe and Mason Alper; Alexander Ray Zieman; Camille, Amanda and Elizabeth Gildersleeve; and two great-great-grandchildren, Bella Guerrero and Isabella Guillory. Vara is survived by a niece Marlene Sue Woods and nephew Richard Allen Green and wife, Linda, of Kansas City, MO. She also is survived by numerous cousins, grand nieces and nephews and friends.
