C. A. Blachly Dies Monday In Hospital
Veteran County Official, Age 76, Succumbs After Brief Illness.

Cornelius Arthur Blachly, 76, for 24 years a public servant of Porter county, died at 9 o'clock Monday evening in Porter Memorial hospital, where he was removed yesterday afternoon after he suffered a stroke.
According to members of his family he had not been feeling well since a heart attack sustained five weeks ago.
Mr. Blachly, or "Art" as he was known to hosts of friends, was a veteran among veterans in Porter county politics. For 16 years, from 1910 to 1918, and from 1926 to 1934, he was auditor of the county. Previously he had served as county assessor from 1907 to 1910 and trustee of Union township from 1902 to 1905.
He was a native of Porter county, being born in Union township, on Oct. 13, 1867, the son of Josephus Blachly and Esther (Eastman) Blachly. His paternal grandparents settled in Porter county in 1834.
His education was obtained in the grade schools of Union township and the Northern Indiana Normal schools, now Valparaiso university.
He was united in marriage to Grace Guernsey on June 1, 1893, a union which terminated in death in January, 1933, when his wife died. Mrs. Blachly served as Valparaiso city clerk for several terms.
For a number of years Mr. Blachly was engaged in farming in Union township, retiring in 1902 to enter public life.
He was a member of the First Christian church of this city. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Esther Bordeau and Mrs. Bruce B. Loring, of Valparaiso; a granddaughter, Nancy Loring, and a grandson, Delbert Bordeau.
Between periods of holding political office, Mr. Blachly was employed by the Lewis E. Myers and Company.
Fraternally he was a member of Porter Lodge, No. 137, Free and Accepted Masons, and the North American Union Lodge.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, at the LePell funeral home on Monroe street, Rev. Stanley L. Shippey, of the First Christian church, officiating. Burial will be in Blachly cemetery, west of Valparaiso.
Friends may call at the LePell funeral home from 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, and up until time of the services.
