Maxine Gillis, 92, of Sherman, IL and formerly of Jacksonville, IL died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Villa Health Care East in Sherman. She was born December 6, 1916 in Toledo, IL; the daughter of Charles Monroe and Alice Carter Adkins. She married James W. Gillis on December 18, 1933 in Effingham, IL and he preceded in death on September 9, 1988.

She is survived by two sons, Loren Gillis (wife, Janis) of Lerna and Clyde Eugene Gillis (wife, Jackie of Thomkinsville, KY; five daughters, Alyce Davis of Auburndale, FL, Martha Jane Goolsby of Jacksonville, Sharon Gooch of Springfield, Sara Miller of Jacksonville, and Becky Little (husband, Louis) of Oklahoma City, OK; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two siblings, Opal Brady and Clyde Adkins.

Mrs. Gillis formerly worked in the dietary department at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia and later for Howard's Cleaners in Jacksonville. She retired from Bound To Stay Bound Book Bindery in Jacksonville. She enjoyed yard sales, crafts and playing Bunco.

Services were entrusted to Buchanan and Cody Funeral Home of Jacksonville, Illinois.
