A memorial service for Leland O. Bales of McMinnville will be held at 2 p.m. today in Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Ward and Delvin Zook officiating.
Private interment will be in Valley View Memorial Park, Newberg.
Mr. Bales died May 9, 1999, in a Portland hospital. He was 70.
He was born March 31, 1929, in Tillamook, the son of Jesse N. and Dorothy B. Bales. He was educated through the eighth grade in Alpine. The family moved to Newberg, where he graduated from high school.
Mr. Bales served in the Army as a medic. After completing his military service, he worked for many years in plywood mills in Port Orford and Eugene. He had lived in Rock of Ages assisted living center in McMinnville for the past several years. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Robert Ward of Dundee; a brother, Bill Bales of Dundee; and a stepbrother, Robert Ward of Ohio.
