A funeral for Mildred Louise Jurhs of McMinnville will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville. The Rev. Wes Smith of McMinnville First Church of the Nazarene will officiate.

Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Astoria.

The funeral home will be open for visitation until 7 p.m. today.

Mrs. Jurhs died May 22, 1999, in her home. She was 88.

She was born June 9, 1910, in Astoria, the daughter of Charles W. and Agnes Marie Nyland Hartill. During her high school years she moved to Seaside, where she graduated from Seaside High School in 1926. She worked for Harrison Bakery in Seaside until marrying.

She and Clarence V. Jurhs were married Dec. 24, 1930, in Seaside.

After marrying, the couple moved to the Lewis and Clark area near Astoria, living in a logging camp for a year. They then moved to Seaside, where Mrs. Jurhs returned to work at the bakery. They moved to Forest Grove in 1945.

Mrs. Jurhs worked for Washington County Tax Department and Loy Clark Pipeline Co. for several years. She was a bookkeeper for her husband's company, Jurhs Logging Co., for many years. She lived in Otis from 1968 to 1980 and then moved to McMinnville.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and watching the ocean. She also liked crossword puzzles, cooking, baking, camping, sewing, travel and digging clams. She belonged to Forest Grove United Methodist Church, Royal Neighbors, Forest Grove Garden Club and Lincoln City Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Clarence "Butch" Jurhs Jr. of McMinnville; a daughter, Jean Dale of Hillsboro; a sister, Myrle Reeder of Paradise; a brother, Charles Hartill of Warrenton; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by four sisters.
