Daddy was a cab driver for several years when he was younger. And for a while was chauffer to THE Robert Taylor. (This was during the time Robert Taylor was married to Barbara Stanwick.) I have a letter RT sent to my dad. I've been told that back then Daddy was a regular king of swing and very popular with the ladies. And that him and RT were pretty chummy, and Dad was invited to many Hollywood parties. I guess he had something of a wild life in his younger years.
