Body of New Castle Soldier Will Arrive in City Tuesday Morning, Funeral Wednesday

The body of the late Pvt. George W. Driver, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Driver, Sr., 1616 East Washington street, will arrive in this city on Tuesday, at 11:19 a.m. and will be taken to the Howard L. Reynolds funeral home, Adams street, for final services. Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, July 28, at 2:30 p.m. from the funeral home, with Dr. J. Paul Graham pastor of the Third U. P. church and Rev. C. R. Thayer, former pastor of the church officiating. Burial will take place in Plaingrove U.P. cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 o'clock. Pvt. Driver, who was killed in action September 10, 1944, at Dornot, France, was born March 25, 1924 in this city, the son of George W. Sr., and Ada M. Hamilton Driver. H was a member of the Third U.P. church and bible school graduating from the New Castle Senior High school class of 1942. He was a member of the high band. Following his graduation from high school, George entered the employe of the The New Castle News where he served as an apprentice printer. On May 7, 1943, he entered the service of his country receiving initial training at Camp Croft, South Carolina, sailing for England July 2, 1944. Landing in England, he was sent almost immediately to France where he joined Company B 23rd Armored Infantry Battalion. He paid the supreme sacrifice during his service in France. Surviving Pvt. Driver are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Driver, Sr.; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Hamilton, Plaingrove and Mrs. T. N. Thompson, his foster grandmother, Grove City.
