Maude Moores

A sad event took place in this city Saturday in the death of Maude, daughter of Joshua and Matilda Moores, of Salem township, this county, which occurred at the residence of Judge Croskey, on West Market street, a few minutes before nine o'clock, after the deceased had been ill about eight days. The young lady had been attending school at the seminary for a year past and was a bright and popular scholar. Last week she was taken ill, and up to the time of her death had been confined to her room at the residence of her cousin, Mrs. Judge Croskey, with whom she made her home while in the city. Her father and mother arrived in the city a week ago, called here by their daughter's illness, and everything that loving hands and medical skill could do for the suffered was willed otherwise, however, and this morning at the hour above mentioned this bright young girl being passed peacefully into eternal rest.

Miss Moores was born in the Moores farm near Richmond, this county, in July 1867, consequently at the time of her death was 18 years of age. She is the daughter of Joshua and Matilda Moores, who are well known residents of this county. Maude was the eldest of five children, four of whom are living. She was a bright, intelligent girl, a loving daughter and pleasant companion, and the sorrow stricken parents are almost heart-broken over her death. The young ladies of the seminary viewed the remains of their dead friend, who, but a few days since was with them in health and life, this afternoon and at three o'clock the remains were taken to Colonel Moores' residence near Richmond. Deceased was a member of the Methodist church and Sunday school at Richmond, and the funeral will take place Monday. The interment will be at the cemetery at Richmond.

The family and friends have the sympathy of the Herald in their sad bereavement.
