OBITUARY: Beaver Dam Daily Citizen, Friday, January 24, 1958, page 5.

FOX LAKE - James F. Derivan passed away at his home, 403 College Ave., at 12:15 p.m. Friday, following a lingering illness for over one year. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 26, 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Roman Rewolinski officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in the Town of Trenton.

The late Mr. Derivan was born in the Town of Trenton, Dec. 10, 1876, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Derivan. He was married to Dora Haase on May 15, 1906. He lived in Milwaukee a short time while a youngster and then for the rest of his life in Fox Lake. Mr. Derivan operated a dray service here for 47 years before retiring.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Miss Margaret Derivan, Denver, Colo., Miss Dorothy Derivan, Ripon, and Mrs. Mary Boyle, St. Paul, Minn.; four sons, Edward, Fox Lake, Joseph, Neshkoro, Frederick, Port Clinton, Ohio, and John, Fox Lake; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Edward T. "Cody" Derivan, Fox Lake and Henry B. Derivan, Port Clinton, Ohio; and one sister, Mrs. Mayme Hodgson, Fox Lake.

Mr. Derivan was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Forestors of which he had been secretary.

The body will lie in state at the Kratz Funeral Home after 3:00 p.m. Sunday. A parish rosary will be held Sunday evening at eight o'clock.

The book "Fox Lake, Wisconsin, 150 Years, 1838 - 1988" has this to say about James Derivan:

"On August 31, 1951, at 5:30 p.m., the last sack of mail to leave Fox Lake by rail was put aboard the mail car by J. F. (Damer) Derivan who had been doing this for 47 years. There were four mail trains every day except Sunday, which were always met by Damer. On Oct. 19, 1904, Damer took over a sub contract from Mr. Mike McCarthy, who was carrying the mail at that time."
