He was born in NYC. Educated in public schools. Studied painting. Enlisted with the Second Connecticut Infantry. Re-enlisted with the Fourth New Jersey Light Artillery. Was head of one of the wards of Marcus L. Ward Hospital. Was a Special Officer at the Newark Opera House.
