BOONEVILLE - William Lawrence Gullett Jr., 89, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at The Landmark Community and Assisted Living in Booneville. He was born Oct. 14, 1919, in Prentiss County to Lawrence and Mary Fugitt Gullett. He graduated from Booneville High School in 1938 and attended Millsaps College in Jackson. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941. He was discharged from service in 1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star, ETO Ribbon with four Battle Stars, and an Arrow Head for assault of Utah Beach, D-Day, 1944. He was a member of the American Legion and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a member of the Booneville Rotary Club, the Booneville Schools' Board of Trustees, and the Board of Stewards and Administration Board of the First United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phillip Box officiating. Burial will be in the Booneville Cemetery.

Survivors include his children, Becky (Stan) Herren of Madison and Bill (Janet) Gullett of Starkville; his grandchildren, Michele (Michael) Quinn of Birmingham, Ala., Amanda (Kevin) Camp of Ridgeland, Seth (Anita) Herren of Olive Branch, Foster Gullett of Starkville and Elizabeth Gullett of Starkville; and four great-grandchildren, Kirby and Abbey Quinn, and Hayes and Mackie Herren; and a sister, Mary Ann Ward (Billy) of Booneville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Marie Pounds Gullett; and a brother, Jimmy.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Booneville; the Alzheimer's Association; or a favorite charity.
