David made the courageous decision to go back to college about twelve ago, that dream was also cut short due to his illness.
He will be remembered as someone who liked to work on cars and motorcycles. He also enjoyed drawing and reading, just about anything he could. His love of the ocean and boats is what drove him to go to college for oceanography. He also did all the cooking; he would watch the cooking shows as often as he could to find a new recipe. His two greatest joys were anything with a motor; the louder and faster the better, whether it was a snowmobile, ATV or his Harley; and his three Labrador retrievers, Brandy, who died a short time ago, Oliver and Ruby.
Beside Ann he is survived by his brother Norman C. "Buddy" Walton and his wife Claudia of Portland; his sister Karen M. Nielsen and her husband John J. of Cumberland Center; and his other brother Lewis R. Walton and his wife Eileen of Frederick, MD. He also leaves a niece Sonja M. Nielsen and her partner Roger A. Wilcox of Windham, nephews Christopher J. Nielsen of Cumberland Center and Matthew D. Leighton of Portland, a great niece Karli M. Nielsen of Windham and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by Ann Marie's father Eugene H. Leighton of DeBary, FL who became like a father to David after his own father died in 1975.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, February 2, 2009, from 9-11 a.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland to be followed by a Memorial service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Doug Heuiser officiating.
Interment will follow in Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland, ME.
You are invited to share your thoughts, condolences and fond memories with the Walton family by visiting David's guest book at www.mem.com.
