He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle Voak Alpin and Sara Belsath Sewall Aplin.
Charles moved with his parents and sisters from South Dakota to Chattanooga, TN during the Great Depression. He operated Aplin's Esso at 11th Street and Central Avenue and later the Brainerd Car Wash. In 1941 he married violinist and UC graduate Carol Granger, and together they reared five children. Charles was a U. S. Navy Veteran and sang bass in the church choir. He enjoyed life and was ready for whatever came his way.
He will be remembered with great affection by his wife, Carol; children, Charles Jr. (and wife Jan) of Seattle, WA, James (and wife Jill) of Lookout Mountain, Jock (and wife Jan) of Blue Grass, IA, Joanne Terry (and Husband Phil) of Signal Mountain, TN, and Steven (and wife Beverly) of East Ridge, TN; grandchildren, Eric Aplin (and wife Stephanie), Christy Aplin, Benjamin and Matthew Aplin, Jennifer and Dana Terry, Shannon, Brett and Calvin Aplin; great-grandson, Nathan Aplin; sisters, Harriet Beasley of Memphis, TN and Arian Snodgrass of Knoxville, TN; and numerous other family members and friends.
Memorial service will be held at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Belvoir Avenue, East Ridge, TN, today, May 22, 2002 ai 1 p.m. with Rev. Clifford Herd officiating.
The family will receive vivitors prior to the service, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery following the service.
