He fought for the Confederacy as a private in Company C, 30th Virginia Infantry, and later as a private in Company E, 9th Virginia Cavalry. His father, Charles Benson Bullard, a farmer, was born September 29, 1815, in Virginia, a son of Charles Bullard and Martha Herndon. On March 22, 1838, in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, Charles married Sarah Ann Chancellor, born July 7, 1819, in Chancellorsville, Spotsylvania County, Virginia, and died August 14, 1915, in Washington, D. C., a daughter of John Chancellor and Mary Crutcher Gatewood.
Lee's sister, Anna B. "Nan" Bullard, was born Dec. 13, 1857, in Virginia, and died in 1932. She married Harry R. Warren, born 1868 in Maryland, died 1919. They are also buried in Glenwood Cemetery.
