Son of Jessie Gandy and Luna Willis. Born in Tift County, GA, RD grew up on a farm near Pavo in rural Thomas County, GA. A meat packer and sausage maker by trade. During the 1930's RD worked for Sunnyland of Thomasville, GA. On 28 Oct.1933 RD married Florrie Redding, youngest daughter of Tom Redding and Lucy Livingston at the Redding home near Pavo. After his father's death in 1940 RD moved his family to Jacksonville, FL to take advantage of work at the shipyards during WWII. The family moved again around 1955 to Statesboro, GA. RD enjoyed fishing. At the age of 44 he died much too young. Survived by his son and daughter in law, one grandson, five sisters, three brothers, several nieces and nephews and many other family members.
