Don Wallace Bateman, a loving husband, motivating father and doting grandfather, has joyously returned to the loving embrace of his parents (Marlon Samuel and Mary Armstrong). Don defied the odds of Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM) and donned his hat with dignity in spite of cancer.

Born in Murray, Utah and raised in Sandy, Utah with his three brothers; Don cherished his formative years with his brothers and spoke of that time fondly.

He was in excellent health for the majority of his life and he took advantage of it! In doing so, Don worked on a farm, became an accomplished skier, ski instructor, served in the Utah Air National Guard and proudly built two beautiful homes.

Don had a deep appreciation and immediate acceptance for all cultures, people and their landscapes. Don absolutely loved maps.

He eagerly embraced all facets of life and wanted to know as much as he possibly could about everything. Don wasn't much for putting on airs; he was true to himself by being kind, intelligent, hard working, resourceful and intensely creative. These attributes were displayed frequently throughout his life.

His proudest accomplishment was having married Nanette Rose in the Manti, Utah Temple. Don faithfully served in the Andes Spanish-speaking LDS mission from 1960-1963. After his mission he put himself through school at the U of U and received his MBA at BYU.

Don was employed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and taught Seminary for over 30 years in the Jordan School District and for a few years as a Seminary Supervisor in southern Texas.

Don also spent a number of years teaching Institute at the Utah State Prison. In this capacity Don was able to inspire thousands of youth and adults to excel in knowing the teachings and life of Jesus Christ.

Later in life he delighted in working as a bus driver. Don also served as a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple for over 15 years.

Don will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Nanette Rose Bateman; his six children, DonCarlos (Rochelle), Russ (Angela), Maria (James) Garrett, Joshua (Diana), Benjamin (Melanie), Eliza; five grandchildren, Darian, Parker, Dallin, Lily and Katelyn; by his brothers, Marlon H and E Ray; and Don's faithful dog, Roxie. Don is preceded in death by his parents, Marlon Samuel and Mary Armstrong; and his brother, C. Neldon.
