Vera Strassner, 98, a resident of Lewisburg for most of her life, died at 8:50 am Friday Nov. 3,1995 in the Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village where she was a resident for nearly two and a half years. Mrs. Strassner was born Feb. 3,1897 in Anthony Township Montour County, a daughter of Emanuel and Catherine Seip Foust. Her husband Harry H. Strassner died 50 years ago this month. They were married 28 years. Mrs. Strassner attended the Porter School in Derry Township, Montour County. She was employed for more than 19 years as postmaster at Bucknell University. She retired at age 70 but continued to work part time in the post office until she was 80. She was a member of Christ's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lewisburg since 1916 and a member of the Sunday School there. She had been an active member and past president of the Lewisburg Parent - teacher Association. She was a member of the Shikelimo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the ramblers Club and Union County Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. She was an active volunteer at buffalo Valley Lutheran Village for more than 15 years. She enjoyed traveling and in 1962 journeyed with a group of Bucknell students through 11 European countries during a six-week period. She was an avid Bucknell University basketball fan. Mrs. Strassner attended nearly all of the team's home games for more than 47 years. Even last year she never missed a game. She was a prolific letter writer communicating with many friends and a host of former Bucknell students for many years. Surviving are her children, Doris Marino of Lewisburg, Donald W. Strassner of the Wood Lands, Texas, and Nancy Campbell of Augusta, Maine; 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren ; two great-great-grandchildren and two step sisters, Leona Rees and Jean Clewell both of Ocala Fla. Preceding her in death were a daughter Valeida Stanton and two step sisters Margaret Wolf and Thelma Hortman.

The obit fails to mention her other step siblings Walter Emanuel, Mary Herbine, and Olive Tobolski. She also was raised by the William H. and Juliet Girton Martz family as her mother died in childbirth and her father could not raise her. This family was the parents of her fathers brothers wife.
