Gerald was a sweet and loving child; which probably explains why his time here was so short. Heaven certainly needed another angel! Gerald's favorite song was "Red Sails in the Sunset" and there was a certain tune that he had made up himself that he would play on the organ every morning when he got up.

His sister, Madeline, recalled him as "a remarkable child… gentle, even tempered, and just plain unbelievable when it came to getting along with him. He was sweet and loving, and musical! He was never an ounce of trouble."

Although he died before she was born, his sister, Jeanine, recalled her mother telling her that Gerald's favorite breakfast food was "oakmeal". She also told of a time when their mother sent Gerald next door to borrow an onion. When the neighbor answered the door, Gerald asked, "Do you got any unishes we don't have?"

Gerald had a red wagon and he loved to spend time in his swing.

Just three years old, Gerald came down with Influenza Meningitis. Doctors did all they could; even resorting to having a special serum of some sort flown in from Boston. But six days after the onset of infection, Gerald was dead.

After his death, the neighbors asked that the swing Gerald loved, be taken down as they could not bear to see anyone else swinging in it.
