MEMPHIS, Tenn. Dan Brewer Greer, age 82, of Memphis, Tenn., passed away Feb. 16, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis. A visitation will also be held at Gunter and Peel Funeral Home in Columbus, Miss. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Burial will be in Egger Cemetery in Caledonia, Miss. immediately following the visitation.

Mr. Greer was born and raised in Alabama and was a proud graduate of the University of Alabama. His greatest pleasure was following Alabama sports, especially football. He even retired to Tuscaloosa to participate more fully in Alabama sports. Dan graduated from Lanett Alabama High School in 1943. He joined the United States Navy and proudly served through World War II. He began his undergraduate college studies after his release from military service, and immediately after graduation in 1949 started his career with First National Bank of Memphis. During his banking career, he completed graduate business training at Rutgers University. His career at First Tennessee spanned 36 years; he retired in 1985 as Executive Vice President with First Tennessee National Corporation. His expertise was in corporate credit administration, during which time he was instrumental in bringing BankAmericard (now VISA) to the Memphis area. He continued his career in retirement as an Independent Loan Consultant for Fidelity National Bank and other banks in the Mid-South. Dan was an active member of the Alabama Quarterback Club and Chickasaw Country Club. When he was not engaging in his favorite pastime of telling stories about Alabama football, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Mr. Greer leaves a son, Tim Greer, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; a daughter, Jan Greer Crawford and her husband Phillip of Waco, Texas; a grandson, Phillip T. Crawford, III of Annapolis, Maryland; a nephew, Tommy Pate of Columbus, Mississippi; and numerous cousins in Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama.

Mr. Greer was preceded in death by a brother, TC Greer, and sister, Evelyn Greer Pate, both of Columbus, Miss.
