Dr. Thomas Jefferson Sanders served Otterbein College (Westerville, Franklin Co., OH) from 1891 until his death in 1946.

He was graduated from Otterbein University, A.B., 1878, A.M. 1881. He was superintendent of public schools in Westerville, Franklin, Co., OH 1878-1891; tenth president of the Otterbein University, also occupying the Westerville chair of philosophy, 1891-1901, and in 1901 assumed the John Hulitt chair of philosophy there. He received the degree of PH.D. from Wooster university in 1888. He is the author of: Philosophy of the Christian Religion (1888); Transcendentalism (1889); God: the Ultimate a priori Condition (1890); The Unconscious in Education (1887); The Place and Purpose of the College (1890); The Nature and End of Education (1889).

He married Emma Gertrude Slater in 1878. They had one son Earnest A. Sanders, born 1881 in Ohio, who subsequently lived in New Jersey, moving there some time after marrying Ola H. Schrock in Westerville, OH. Earnest and Ola appear in the 1910 US Census in Jersey City, NJ.
