Winner of the Bendix air race, Thompson race. Featured on cover of TIME. Carried "Gilmore" the lion with him (Sponsored by Gilmore Oil Co.) Established flying school and Roscoe Turner Aeronautical Corp in Indianapolis, Ind., and a flying school for WWII pilots. His funeral was attended by famed aviators and race drivers.
