Cecil married Elsie Lewis in 1926 in Kaufman County, Texas. They had one son, George Seay Chaffin, and one adopted daughter. Their daughter was born to Elsie's youngest sister, Betty Jean. Betty Jean named her daughter Cynthia Mae. Elsie wanted a daughter and Betty Jean decided to let Elsie and Cecil adopt Cynthia. Elsie and Cecil changed the child's name to Mary Ann Chaffin.
