Howard Doyle Baker, son of Ether C. Baker of Etna, was drowned last Sunday, June 8th at the Alpine resort swimming pool at about 2 p.m.
Leo A. Williams, Bonneville county, Idaho, Coroner and Alfred Nogo, highway patrolman from Idaho Falls, who made an official investigation, reported that drowning was probably due to a cramp, since he was reported to be a fairly good swimmer.
Mr. Baker had been in swimming about two hours. He then left the pool for sandwiches and cold drinks. Shortly after her returned to the pool, two boys, the only other occupants, observed he had disappeared and summoned assistance.
The body was taken to the Schwab Mortuary in Afton by Wilford Clark.
Doyle was born in Inglewood, California, April 19, 1926, and lived most of his life in Etna. He received his education i the Etna grade school. He had worked at Aberdeen, Idaho for a year while living with his grandmother. For the past year he worked for Wilford Clark and Wiffen Bateman at farm work, He was ordained a priest in the L.D.S. church.
He is survived by three brothers, Max. Earl, and Val and step brother, Donald Johnson, besides his father, stepmother, Morvella, grandmother, Mrs James Shaw and a sister-in-law Adeline. His mother and a brother, Jack, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday June 11th at 2 p.m. in the Etna Ward with Bp. Wilford Clark, presiding. The program was as follows:
Prelude: "Just A Wearyin' For YOu" by Miss Bonnie Jean Moesser.
Invocation: Bishop William F. Moesser.
Ladies Chorus: "In the Garden" Singing Mothers, accompanied by Ruth Clark.
First Speaker "Preparation for Life Hereafter". Fred Weber.
Vocal Solo "In the Garden of Tomorrow" by Ruth Clark accompanied by her daughter, Dixie.
Second Speaker Acquaintance with the Baker Family. Wardell Clinger.
Ladies Chorus "Shall We Meet Beyond the River," Singing Mothers.
Remarks: Bishop Wilford Clark.
Vocal Solo "A Perfect Day," by Mrs. Marion Wolfley, accompanied on the piano by her daughter, Shirley and on the violin by Eldon Hyde.
Benediction: Dean Humpherys
Postlude: "Meditation", Mrs Bonnie Jean Moesser.
The graved was dedicated by Bp. Ray Clark.
Pall bearers were: Earl Baker, Max Baker, Dennis Baker, Lloyd Baker, Donald Johnson and Keith Thompson.
Flower girls were Shirley Wolfley, Fern Robins, LeaRae Ames, Patsy Wolfley, La Nell Hooper, Emogene Ames and Joyce Dabel.
