John Baptist Rich, the son of Crepin Rich and Anne Marie Meyer, was born on November 5, 1832 in Oberentzen Haut Rhin France and came to America landing in New Orleans, Louisiana. His immigration was November 26,1851 and he was naturalized September 2, 1867. In the 1860 census he was a teamster with the United States Armory Quarter Masters Department, in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. After he left the teamsters he was living in Castroville.

John met Regina Haller Pichot and married her on March 23, 1865 in Bexar Co., Tx. On December 30, 1866 a son was born to them his name was Emanuel and on Jan 16, 1869 a second son was born to them his name was Andrew. Andrew died March 6, 1869. Another son was born about 1870 his name was John. John was not listed in the 1900 census he probably died young as there was never any talk of anyone but Emanuel aka (Amil).

John and Regina Rich moved to Travis County by 1880 and living with them were her sons Louis and Albert Pichot and their sons Emanuel and John Rich.

Regina died on February 12, 1892 and is buried in the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Austin, Travis County Texas. The name on the head stone is Rachel Rich another name my mother told me she was called. The church is located on FM 812 going east of Lockhart Hwy. a short piece on the left side of the road.

John Rich married Pauliene Kanetzky on June 27, 1892 just 4 months after his wife Regina had died. John died August 23, 1915 in Austin, Travis County, Texas and was also buried in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery. I was told by Fred Rich that he frequently visited the grave of John Rich until he found John's headstone and fence gone.

Pauline was born March 19, 1844 in Poland and her immigration to the US was in 1884 and she died January 12, 1922 in Waxahachie, Texas and was buried January 13, 1922 in the Salem Lutheran Church cemetery beside her first husband Johan V. Kanetzky who was born in 1842 and died Aug 30, 1889.
