Born on May 19, 1939, at Welch, he was the son of the late Beckett "Charles" Browning (1883-1966) and Corba Elizabeth Hatfield-Browning (1905-1993). He was married to Gracie Mae West-Browning (B. 1944) on November 22, 1962 in North Spring, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1962, Page 495, Application Date: November 10, 1962).
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Buel Browning (Deceased) and two sisters, Hazel Browning-Fortner (1925-Deceased) and Brida Browning-Toler (1923-2008).
Harry was a retired SFC of the US Army. While serving our country he received the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal (6 Campaigns); Vietnam Campaign Medal; 4 O/S Bars; Meritorious Unit Citation; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm; Good Conduct Medal 6th Award; Army Commendation Medal (2d OLC); Bronze Star Medal; and Meritorious Service Medal. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend and was of the Baptist Faith. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to love and cherish the memory of Harry are: his three sons: Kevin (Tamara) Browning of Hephzibah, Georgia; Harry (Jackie) Browning, Jr. of Hickory, North Carolina, and Aaron Beckett Browning of Georgia; his daughter, Leanora Elizabeth Browning of Oceana; his two brothers: Chester (Diana) Browning (B. 1941) of Hanover and French Browning (1950-2014) of Justice; his two sisters: Maxine Browning-Straley (B. 1928) of Rockhouse and Fredona Browning-Adams (B. 1946) of Cincinnati Ohio; his twelve grandchildren: Airman 1st Class Larry Smith, PFC Mathew Browning; Harry Andrew, Lea, Heather, Aaron Jr., Gracie, and Parker Browning, Megan Jones, Hope Smith, and Cory and Nora Hall; a special loved one, Gracie Browning of Davey; and a host of other dear family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 27th at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Johnson officiating.
Burial followed in the Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny. Military gravesite services were performed by the West Virginia National Honor Guard and the Disable American Veterans Chapter #141 of Belfrey Kentucky.
