Shortly after their marriage on Nov. 15, 1877 in Coosa Co., AL, James and Mary Ann Stanley relocated to Fayette County, AL. The reason for the relocation was that James didn't want his boys to grow up and work in the marble quarries or as he would say "rock quarries". Also, he didn't want his family growing up next to the Coosa River, that was very dangerous at that time. [Doyle Wayne Meherg]

James married the sister of Mary Ann Stanley, Martha Stanley Hines on Apr. 26, 1891 in Fayette Co., AL. Martha was previously married to Joseph Hines. and had one child. James and Martha were said to have had one child, whose name is unknown. [Doyle Wayne Meherg]
