Unfortunately, the bottom of the original headstone is missing, but it is believed the CSA headstone added later is inaccurate. Mr. Harris is not shown on the 1870 or 1880 census, and his wife is listed as 'widowed'. Civil War records show rank in and rank out as private so I assume he survived until the end of the war (April 1865). He had a daughter who was born in April 1866 so, presuming she really was his biological daughter, he had to have lived until at least July 1865. Some family members have suggested that he died Oct 1 1866, and that seems reasonable, given the various factors.
