Allyn D. Gorrell, 85, of Rushville, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born Jan. 8, 1922 in Rush County, he was the son of Lawrence and Ethel (Davidson) Gorrell. He married Mary Riffey June 5, 1943; she survives.

Mr. Gorrell lived all his life in Rush County and was a 1940 graduate of New Salem High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Rushville American Legion and VFW.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Danny Gorrell of North Vernon and Lynn Gorrell (and wife Teresa) of Speedway; two sisters, Dorothy (Mrs. Cedric) Aldridge of Rushville and Edith Angle of New Salem; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Moster Mortuary in Rushville with Jerry Holdman officiating. Burial, which will include a graveside military service, will follow in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary.
