He was living in Stanley County, N.C. in 1917-18 when he registered for the WWI draft.

Struck by a freight engine as he lay across the track, close to his home near Jones Creek in north Martinsville, Terrell G. Gilbert, about 40, local furniture plant employee, was instantly killed early Monday night. M. L. Gravely, fireman on the engine, said he noticed the body lying across the tracks, but not in time to bring the engine to a stop.
Gilbert, a native of North Carolina, came to Martinsville about 20 years ago, where since he had held employment in a local furniture industry.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, who prior to her marriage was Miss Ruby Warren, this city and three children: Mary Elizabeth, Charles and Jimmy Gilbert; two brothers, Peter Gilbert of Mayodan, and John Gilbert of Baltimore; four sisters, Mrs. Cain Conway of Stanleytown; Mrs. Harvey Dalton of Madison, N.C., Mrs. William Cassaday and Miss Carrie Gilbert, both of Stanleytown. Mrs. Walter N. Gilbert of Broad Street, this city, is a sister-in-law.
Funeral services will be held from the residence on Dillard Street Wednesday with interment to follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
