OBITUARIES: Johnnie Marvin Mayes
June 13, 1938-Oct. 26, 2008

HERMISTON - Johnnie Marvin Mayes, 70, of Hermiston died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston. Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Burns Mortuary in Hermiston. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the Lexington Cemetery. All friends and family are welcome to attend.

Mr. Mayes was born June 13, 1938, in Mountain View, Okla., to Ernest and Leta Bottom Mayes. He attended Hermiston schools and graduated from Hermiston High School.

He was a farmer all of his working life, raising hay and watermelons. He loved his animals and his grandchildren.

Mr. Mayes is survived by his ex-wife, Phyllis Mayes of Hermiston; sons Ronnie Mayes of Everett, Wash., and Lonnie Mayes of Pendleton; daughter Tanya Greene Urban of Amboy, Wash.; brothers William R. Mayes of Colorado and James Mayes of California; sister June Martin of Canada; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lela, and his grandparents.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of arrangements.
