MADISON - Edith A. Sachtjen, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at Meriter Hospital. She was born in Milwaukee on Feb. 12, 1920, the daughter of Charles and Lillian (Preiser) Dibbert. Edith was raised in Delafield. In 1947 the family moved to Madison where she met Merlyn at Zion Lutheran Church. They were married on March 31, 1951. Edith worked as a secretary to General Ferrand at St. John's Military Academy in Delafield and then as a secretary to the professor of naval science, U.S. Navy R.O.T.C., in Madison. She was an active member of Antioch Temple No. 113, Daughters of the Nile, Faith Circle and Midvalers. Edith was a member of Midvale Community Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her family and especially her granddaughters, her church family, traveling, reading, Bible study, service projects, crosswords and all kinds of puzzles, knitting and crocheting, the Cubs and the Bears. Edith is survived by her husband of 53 years, Merlyn; son, Steven (Diane) Sachtjen; granddaughters, Jennifer and Alicia Sachtjen; brother, Roland (Norma) Dibbert; and two nephews, Dan (Beth) and Don (Lori). She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant sister Caroline. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2004, at MIDVALE COMMUNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4329 Tokay Blvd., Madison, with the Rev. Bruce Loewenhagen and the Rev. Blake Rohrer officiating. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Mausoleum.
